Improvement Projects:
On
behalf of PA. Gov. Mark Schweiker, Transportation Secretary
Bradley L. Mallory announced the release of $3.6 million in
state capital budget funds to help five railroads undertake
needed infrastructure repairs.
Canadian
National Railway cutting 1,146 jobs:
CN
is cutting 1,146 jobs, or about 5 percent of its work force,
in a bid to improve productivity and curb rising labor costs.
Most of the job cuts will take place in Canada, with 325 in
the United States.

Government Policy Discriminates Against Rail:
Speaking
to the Western Transportation Advisory Council, Mr. Ritchie
said that the government’s policies create an uneven playing

Bombardier
Transportation has received an order from the Geneva transport
authority for the supply of 21 low-floor trams type Cityrunner.
The contract is valued at approximately $90 million Cdn (57
million Euros).
SNCF
to re-design high-speed TGV trains:
French
national rail group SNCF is to consult its passengers over the
new interior design of its Atlantique and Est high-speed (TGV)
trains. About 183 Atlantique and Est trains are to have their
interiors re-designed, representing about half the group's total
fleet of TGVs.
Bombardier
gets $18.7M British rail contract:
Bombardier
Inc. said yesterday it had obtained a design contract from
Britain's Railtrack worth $18.7-million to resignal a line in
the East Midlands area.

phase of the construction of the Taiwan high speed rail project.
